Diazinon (Dimpylate) is an organothiophosphate derivative used widely as an agricultural and household insecticide.

The commercially available form is concentrated Diazinon solution (25%). The intended concentration for use outdoors is a 0.05% solution, but its use is being phased out.

Diazinon is inactivated by photochemical oxidation and therefore does not linger in the environment. Exposure is usually occupational by dermal contact or by inhalation Baselt and Cravey (1990).

Used indiscriminately during the Gulf War, it is now suspected as a possible cause of “Gulf War Syndrome” Evans (1996).
